An apostille is the process of authenticating a document for use abroad. An apostille serves as an official certification that a government has reviewed and verified the authenticity of a document, ensuring that it is properly recorded and recognized. This process confirms that the document meets the necessary legal standards, allowing it to be accepted for use in the intended destination country without requiring further authentication. Once a document has been issued an apostille, it is intended for use in foreign countries that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention and can no longer be used for official purposes within the United States.
